A New Chapter for the Imperial War Museum London Café

We’re excited to share that the newly reimagined café at Imperial War Museum London has officially opened its doors, marking a fresh chapter in the museum’s visitor experience.

Restaurant Associates Venues has worked in close partnership with Imperial War Museum London to transform the space into a destination that connects food, design and history. The result is a café that feels part of the museum’s storytelling, blending heritage and hospitality to create a space that enriches every visit.

The new design draws inspiration from the community spirit of East London cafés and eateries, particularly the iconic pie and mash shops that became local institutions in the 1900’s. Every element, from tiling reminiscent of the era to period-influenced typography and fittings, celebrates this heritage while offering a contemporary experience for today’s visitors.

The menu reflects the same balance of past and present, paying homage to British favourites such as pie and mash, alongside modern dishes made with high-quality, seasonal ingredients. Guests can expect fresh, flavourful food served in a welcoming setting.

Story-led interiors echo the museum’s broader mission to explore the human stories behind conflict. The café now forms a natural extension of the exhibitions, designed as a place to pause, reflect and connect with the narratives that shape the museum’s collections.

Armand Lami, Account Director at Imperial War Museums, comments:

“Building on the momentum of our five-year contract renewal with Imperial War Museums, we set out with a bold vision to innovate and enhance our hospitality offering; wanting to make our cafes an extension of the museums’ experience. Through close collaboration, the reopening of the Imperial War Museum London’s Cafe with its new look and feel marks the first step and we’re incredibly excited to bring this approach to the other museums.”

This reopening follows an exciting period for Imperial War Museum London, which recently shortlisted for Best Unusual or Unique Venue at the London Venue & Catering Awards.

After a short refurbishment in early September, the café officially welcomed back customers on Wednesday 8th October 2025. Entry to the museum is free, so come along and make a day of it, exploring the galleries before relaxing in the café for a taste of East London heritage.
