StrEATfood Awards – Congratulations to Chef Ben Sheeran!

We are immensely proud to announce that Chef Ben Sheeran from Restaurant Associates and Casper Horn from Compass Group UK & Ireland have been selected as two of the sixteen finalists in the StrEATtfood Awards 2024, organised by H2O Publishing.

This innovative competition showcases the creativity and talent of the best street food chefs in the country. Next month Ben and Avraj will face a series of challenges, starting with cooking their signature dishes in front of a panel of esteemed judges.

It was Ben's adventurous Crispy Pudding Takoyaki with Lake District maple cured bacon and Wirral watercress Kewpie mayonnaise that earned him a spot and being his first time at these Awards, he is made up to be in the final.

“Street food truly captivated me after my visit to Japan in 2010, which I consider the street food capital of the world. I was drawn in by the sheer variety of flavours and styles available, perfect for grazing as we hurriedly tried to fit everything into our packed itinerary on that once-in-a-lifetime trip. The normality of street food in everyday Japanese culture struck a chord with me, especially given my background in the catering industry and my habit of 'eating on the go.' My absolute favourite was 'Takoyaki.'  I craved the excitement that comes from the diverse flavours.

"I've recreated this beloved dish using the hearty foods I grew up with, sourced from in the North of England where they are committed to sustainability. By using some of the finest local produce, I've crafted a blend of flavours that reflects both my roots and my passion for exceptional street food.”
