Founded while the First World War was still raging, Imperial War Museum London gives voice to the extraordinary experiences of ordinary people forced to live their lives in a world torn apart by conflict. Located in Central London close to the City, Westminster and Southbank, IWM London’s famous façade is a stunning Grade II listed building.

Designed by world-renowned architects, Foster + Partners, a spectacular Atrium forms the heart of the museum and a breathtaking hanging gallery provides dramatic views of the floors beneath. Along with remodelled daytime rooms, IWM London provides the perfect showcase for events both big and small, traditional or quirky, high profile or low-key.

Cafe at IWM London

We are proud to operate the newly refurbished IWM London café located off the main atrium, the ideal spot to relax during your visit.  

The new design draws inspiration from the community spirit of East London cafés and eateries, particularly the iconic pie and mash shops that became local institutions in the 1900’s. Every element, from tiling reminiscent of the era to period-influenced typography and fittings, celebrates this heritage while offering a contemporary experience for today’s visitors.   

The menu reflects the same balance of past and present, paying homage to British favourites such as pie and mash, alongside modern dishes made with high-quality, seasonal ingredients. Guests can expect fresh, flavourful food served in a welcoming setting.  

Entry to the museum is free, making it easy to explore the galleries before relaxing in the café for a taste of East London heritage.

Christmas Celebrations

Entertain guests amongst some of IWM London’s most iconic exhibits this Christmas, including the dramatically suspended aircraft in the Atrium.

For a different perspective our breathtaking rooftop terrace, a suspended gallery at the top of the atrium, provides dramatic views of the floors below.

The spectacular Atrium forms the heart of the museum with a breathtaking hanging gallery. With the remodelled daytime meeting and conference rooms IWM London provides the perfect showcase for events big and small, traditional and low-key or high profile and inspirational.

The backdrop of large exhibits on display in the Atrium include a rare Battle of Britain Spitfire, a Harrier jet and a German V2 rocket.
